Hypnosis is that paranormal?
Hypnosis also gets pigeonholed by many people into the paranormal pigeonhole. Of course, this is not surprising if you have studied the phenomenon from the outside. Indeed, it almost seems supernatural, but is that so
Is hypnosis paranormal?
Hypnosis is certainly not paranormal, but there are those who would like to believe it is. Of course, it is also quite a miraculous state, and I too still find it peculiar when my arm goes up by itself. But miraculous is different from paranormal.
Still, many therapists mix the "paranormal" with hypnosis and then talk about past lives, soul journeys, contact with your higher self and more such things. Fine, that's up to everyone, only then hypnosis gets stuck in that corner.
Even the leading hypnotherapists in this field make that mistake by engaging in it. They have hypnotized themselves by believing in this and so will naturally create the evidence. What I find much worse is that they hypnotize their clients with this. When you do this consciously and know that you are consciously employing this, it is fine, but most really believe in past lives.
Previous lives and reincarnation
A long time ago, I read a reputable book on hypnotherapy in the Netherlands. The author started a whole rant about souls, karma and past lives, thus introducing the book. As if it was a truth. I found that so strange and I still wonder if he really believed that or if it was an idea to hypnotize people with it.
Now you may be wondering what I believe in and if that means I don't believe in that sort of thing. Let me put it this way. When I tell my client that I believe in past lives. That we all have a soul and that that soul picks up karma during those lives and wants to work it out in this life. Then there is a very good chance that my client will go to a past life because I hypnotize him with that idea.
I personally have no use for that, because it doesn't matter if the problem is solved in this life, solved in a past life, or solved in the next life.
Next life?
Exactly, a next life. I myself have done a dozen experiments with clients and solved their problems in an afterlife, so it can be done. You just have to convince them of that idea a little more. Our brain can grasp just fine that an occurrence earlier, in the now, causes problems. However, our brain has a very hard time grasping that something later also causes problems now.
Anyway, isn't everything now?
Hence, I am a proponent of separating hypnosis from reincarnation therapy and other paranormal perspectives. Indeed, if we continue to (unnecessarily) combine these, doctors will never fully embrace this phenomenon.
So doesn't reincarnation therapy work?
Of course reincarnation therapy works. Working with past lives is fine and you can do very beautiful things with it. I myself have undergone quite a few soul journeys say, and it felt fine.
It's about realizing that you too are hypnotized with that idea. That it all exists. Maybe it does, I don't know, but it could very well be an illusion. And that illusion is also called hypnosis, and while we are not "awake" and in hypnosis ourselves, it is helpful to be aware of that.
Put it to use to get people coming to your practice looking for it. Perfect. But are you going to impose your own beliefs like a Jehovah going door-to-door, then I personally think you're missing the point. You don't have to convert people to your religion, all you have to do is go along with their religion and make some adjustments to it. And of course they do that themselves.
