How do you get work after high school?

Applying for a job if you have the "wrong" degree can be tough. Not with these tips!

I’ve been helping people for 16 years now. The funny thing is, I was already doing this in high school. During high school, you know that somewhere inside you lies the talent to do what will become your work—whether it’s the career you’ll pursue later or the career you’ll create for yourself. The job I have now didn’t even exist back then! I used to make my choices based on what paid well and what I was good at. But just because you’re good at something doesn’t mean you want to do it for the rest of your life.

A good way to think about whether a job is right for you is to ask yourself the following question:

"Can I be in that environment for 24 hours?

Can you see yourself working in an office? Then imagine yourself among working people in the office. If you want to become a doctor, hang out at the hospital.

Is the answer yes? Top.

So "no? Then just know!

It's that simple.

Your born talent

The talent you have in you, what you were born with, you can find a suitable job for that.

I myself am a born people helper. I used to help people with all sorts of things, and I have now created a job in that. In fact, I now even create many jobs for other people. So you can do that!

I left school early, which is not exactly the best advice for when you're still in high school. I did get my diploma, but after that I was completely out of school. Then I worked in construction for 10 years and at some point I found out what I essentially knew all along, only I couldn't think of a job to go with it.

Offer your services

At this time, I like to give you the following advice: just get started already, do something on the side, start a business, start learning! Even if you don't have a degree, just go to work. That's the best tip!

You know what always fascinates me? That people first want to be paid a lot, and only then do they show what they can do. Instead of the other way around! Show me what you can do first, and then I’ll pay you . That’s how entrepreneurs think .

Be an entrepreneur too! Go work somewhere. Offer your services. Then just get a job, even without a degree.

Create your own opportunities

I was dining out the other day in a real two-star restaurant. That was the first time for me and a crazy experience. The other day I read in a book about a sous chef in that same restaurant. He was once also a bad student in school and didn't know what he wanted, and now he is the sous chef of a two-star restaurant. Why? He went to work somewhere, saw the light, and was forced to really give his all. He thought, "Wow this is crazy, this competition in the kitchen. He was given an opportunity and he took it! The rest is history. So you see. You can create your own opportunities.

SO. If you’re reading this and you’re in high school—or if you’re a parent whose child is in high school—and you’re thinking, “Oh man, I’m not going to graduate”… Who gives a fuck, you know? Seriously, just think about it—how many of the world’s top 10 billionaires actually graduated from high school…? I’d say it’s 50/50. As long as they know what they’re doing and have the mindset of:

"Okay I want this, so I'm going to do it!

Give away a lot first, and you'll get a lot in return later. ;)
