How to Become Important

Personal development is becoming increasingly important.

According to researchers at Hays, in today's rapidly changing work environment, sitting back and expecting your current skills to be enough in the future is no longer an option

Worse: if you sit back and wait for your friendly employer to offer you a course to improve your skills, chances are you will soon be as redundant and obsolete as, say, the fax machine.

In doing so, a whopping 61 percent complain that their employer does not invest enough in their development. Yet nearly half believe it is their own responsibility to keep their skills up-to-date, not the employer's or government's. Nearly four out of 10 then directly admit that they do nothing to develop themselves. Of those who do, chances are it is still not enough. In fact, sixty percent do no more than keep abreast of trends and developments through trade magazines and seminars. Only one-third actively engage in courses and training to improve skills.

Don't wait and see

Waiting can be disastrous. Take the initiative now

Employers have been mostly concerned with survival in recent years. Employees must remember that they must take charge of their own development.

What you can do yourself

  • Be proactive. See the work and the opportunities. Grab them and don't wait for them to come your way
  • Become a networker. Actively go out and meet more people yourself. This is how you expand your network and become more important to your employer. Especially if your network is going to consist of potential new clients
  • Make yourself matter. Find out what your employer wants from you and do that. In fact, go the extra mile. That way, he or she will definitely not want to lose you
  • Make work of personal development. As Jim Rohn used to say:

"To attract attractive people, you must be attractive. To attract powerful people, you must be powerful. To attract committed people, you must be committed. Instead of going to work on them, you go to work on yourself. If you become, you can attract."

So you have to start working on yourself first if you want to become more important. In the new training that will take place in August you are going to learn that. In that training you will learn the best of NLP, conversational hypnosis and persuasion techniques in one amazing 7-day training. On August 22 to August 28 you are going to learn this.

Hi All, Ever since I recently read T.Harv Eker's book, I have felt much more like looking at all kinds of things in a different way than before, "Can I get my money's worth out of it?" If it were up to me, I would take just about any course out there. Only how to get money for it? The head that bites its own tail? Start by even running a newspaper route? Am 56, so hopeless in the regular job market.

Hi Ferdy and everyone reading this, Coincidentally I am reading T.Harv Eker's book and the great thing is that he actually describes exactly how to become rich and successful, modeling those people who already are. And so it comes down to developing your personal skills, and surround yourself with that which you want to learn, so if you want to be important, surround yourself with people who are "important" and learn how they think, what they see, hear, feel, smell and taste. And above all, be important to as many people as possible so in the sense of coaching; the more people you can reach, the more people you help with your qualities. And therefore, the more likely you are to receive generous compensation for doing so. And we all want that, right? And I keep reading in the twitter conversation on the right: Winners have a plan and losers an excuse, so make a good plan for yourself!!! I am curious to hear your reaction! Greetings, Irma

'Make yourself matter,' it immediately caught my eye. Because that's what I've been asking myself for years now. How do you make yourself important? You tell me, because I don't know. On a personal level, you know you are important to family and friends. Absolutely. With me, it's just that at the work level, this doesn't really work yet. Of course I do my best, but every time I seem to piss outside the pot. Not important enough to stick to. My opinion is said to be important, but afterwards the employer draws a completely different plan than even he/she originally wanted. So how do you become important? How do you respond? How do I read the signals, how do I become important enough to leave the express train of job hopping before I ruin my life at this young age?

Hi Everyone, You don’t have to take all the courses, because all wisdom is already within your consciousness! You are consciousness itself—it flows through you. Try focusing more on what you’re doing, and if you have an unpleasant feeling, ask yourself, “Who am I without this feeling?” and make a different choice! Of course, we’re all important because there’s always action and interaction. If you aren’t chosen for a job, it was meant to be that way, and something else is waiting for you—perhaps in a completely different direction than you expected! Be still for a moment. And when you’re washing dishes—ironing—or—washing the car, see what comes to mind and LISTEN to it. You’re so important that something is always being “whispered” to you. We’re all here to learn our lessons, so if something doesn’t work out, your life isn’t ruined—it’s an opportunity to do things a little differently. You live to enjoy life, to love everything that is, because it’s already here anyway; there’s no point in worrying about it. Without you, everything is different—and without me, too. We’re all equally IMPORTANT, whoever or whatever we are.

Ferdy maybe you can do something with it, my own experience is that it often comes down to seeing opportunities and above all creating them. I lost my job 3 years ago due to the bankruptcy of the company I worked for. There was 0.0 response to my letters of application. I started self-study (I had a little more time now) to get a partial certificate (you don't have to have everything right away) to be able to show a company that I don't sit still. From the moment the partial certificate was on my resume, I received 7 invitations out of 8 letters (I didn't change the letter). I then chose the company that looked good on my resume. After six months, there was a vacancy in the newspaper where they asked for 2 people to support the current team. The whole team would be trained (the training I already had a partial certificate from). 1 of the 2 would get a permanent position the other would get a 2 year contract where the training did not have to be paid back provided you completed the 2 years. I was hired here partly because of the partial certificate I already had and the reference from my previous employer :-). I still work there now and we will get another update soon because I indicated that if we want to keep the support at a reasonable level, we need to be retrained again. Of course you have to be lucky, but most of the time you have to create opportunities yourself and not be afraid to take them when they come your way. Another short anecdote: a female colleague of mine is now 62 and was hired at the same company 4 years ago, only because she called to get more clarity on why exactly she was rejected for the job. That got her the job. Even if you're 56, don't throw in the towel and think that you have no chance in the job market; the moment you are convinced of that, you will radiate that and a potential employer will unconsciously pick up on it. The other way around, too: if you have enough self-confidence and you think you are experienced, a go-getter, etc., then you will radiate this and what employer would not want such an employee? Create your own opportunity and seize it with both hands! Regards, Joop

Bye dear reader, whether I want to become more important? No. Because the more I discover who I really am, the more I realize that I AM AL IMPORTANT! The more I become myself, the less I have to try my best to become something or someone or important. In fact, I am then just being myself and realizing that I am very valuable and important! That original "myself" is made to live and enjoy! So the question is really, do you want to discover who you are? And then, how do you discover who you really are? Yes.... With the help of Hypnotherapy, NLP and Cranio Sacral Therapy (these three are my favorites ;D) you can come a long way. A long way, I say deliberately.... Because the only real way to discover who you really are is to look at JESUS. Because then you will discover HIS infinite LOVE FOR YOU!!! And experience how BELIEVING you are and how valuable and important!

Dear people, I would also like to comment on this. Letting yourself become more important or just not, I don't know if that's the question. Or even the answer. Personal development is indeed achieved by taking courses, believing in yourself, seeing your opportunities and creating them yourself. In all simplicity I would like to add one more: HUMOR. This may sound a bit simple, a bit too simple, but don't most people say that simplicity is beautiful? ;-) Humor gives you more power and it is easier to achieve what you want. You attract people... and so do opportunities. I work in education and I find that I can experience much more "richness" with my students when I use humor. Humor makes them more flexible with me, but also makes them more quick to ask for help when they need it. And what could be richer for your own personality if you have the opportunity to learn from their flexibility, openness and ability to put things into perspective...? Carpe diem ;-) Nele
