How hypnotherapy works
Many people wonder, "How does hypnotherapy work? Do they get completely lost or do they become a different personality. Do they lose all control or do they start doing all kinds of weird things. Well, there are quite a few misconceptions about hypnotherapy that I want to describe briefly
How hypnotherapy works
Hypnotherapy was coined to differentiate from hypnotism. It is a form of psychotherapy combined with hypnosis. Now the technique has evolved and today we distinguish between different forms of hypnotherapy.
When you undergo a hypnotherapy session you will find that you are not gone at all. In fact, you are right there. You often hear everything and certainly the voice of the hypnotherapist. You are certainly not asleep although it may seem so from the outside.
Also, you don't lose control during hypnotherapy. In fact, you gain much more control. In a hypnotherapy session, you get to start taking control again. For example, over your fears, addictions and habits.
The best thing about a hypnotherapy session, though, is that nothing happens against your will and change happens quickly. You often don't have to come back 2 or 3 times because there are often results in 1 session. Of course this is not always true, but for a lot of problems it is.
You also don't become a different personality after a hypnotherapy session. On the contrary, you become more and more yourself. A client called me the other day to say that the session had had a miraculous effect. He thought he wanted to be more up front, but now that the turmoil was gone, he didn't think that was important at all. He was fine with being in the background.
Your conscious mind may want a result, but your unconscious really knows exactly what you want and need. That's important, and it's also what makes my work so simple. If I can get you in touch with your unconscious, you do the rest.
How exactly does hypnotherapy work
There are different forms of hypnotherapy. We know of several forms:
- Classical hypnotherapy
- Modern hypnotherapy
- Results-oriented hypnotherapy
Classical hypnotherapy
This is the form that used to be widely used (early last century) and is still used today. It is characterized by direct instructions and suggestions and the imposition of an identity. This can work very well when someone is in deep hypnosis, but if confidence is weak, the results will be minimal.
Modern hypnotherapy
This is the Ericksonian hypnotherapy method and that means the client does everything himself. His own hypnosis and his own change. Ericksonian hypnosis comes from Milton Erickson, who assumed that everyone has all the resources within them to make the change themselves.
So nothing is imposed, but offer space and that is already a big step forward....
Results-oriented hypnotherapy
From the two old currents, there is a new current and we call it result-oriented hypnotherapy. It is the combination of the two currents. The effectiveness of the classical and the open approach from the modern current.
In results-based hypnotherapy , it's all about results and getting them as quickly as possible. Classic and modern hypnotherapy often averages 6 sessions or longer. Results-oriented hypnotherapy is 1 to 3 sessions. That's the difference. Therefore, we work with result-oriented hypnotherapy.
