Game addiction, can you really get rid of it? 6 tips

A game addiction can be more serious than you might think. Almost everyone, especially young people, like to play games from time to time, but the difference with a real game addiction is vast. There is an addiction only when gaming prevents you from doing other things, when you neglect your job or school work and barely get outside because you want to game. In this article, we give six brief tips for anyone who wants to overcome a game addiction.

Game addiction what to do

A first important tip is to identify your addiction. That is, assess how bad your gaming habits are. How many hours a day do you play? What games do you play? Is gaming more important to you than school or your job?

Obviously, you need to answer these questions as honestly as possible, or you won't get anywhere at all. Then ask yourself if these answers are problematic.

There are numerous negative consequences associated with a game addiction. It helps to regularly remind yourself of these issues so that you are motivated to game less.

Some negative consequences of game addiction include obesity, sore fingers, poor sitting posture and, in some cases, serious psychological effects such as depression and panic attacks. If you suffer from any of these serious psychological consequences, do not hesitate to seek professional help.

Impose rules on yourself...

It is important to set strict rules for yourself when you want to get rid of your game addiction. One of the most basic rules you can set for yourself is to simply not play more than a set number of hours per day.

If you normally game from morning to night, you may be advised to slowly phase out, playing less and less each day. This way you keep full control and overcome the addiction step by step.

If you want to start gaming less, you need to fill the time you normally spend on video games with something else. If you want to get rid of your gaming addiction, it helps to plan a busy social life so that you simply don't have time for gaming.

Meet up with friends you haven't seen in a while. Go do fun things that have nothing to do with games and you'll find that time flies by.

A drastic measure for those who want to overcome a game addiction is to simply delete all your favorite games from your computer or console. Then, when you want to play, you will think twice, because you have to reinstall everything again first. If you get it over your head to delete your favorite games, then this is an excellent start.

Allow yourself game time only when you've done something useful. Do you have homework that needs to be done urgently? Is it time to get some exercise? Almost all alternatives are valid. After you have done something useful, you can reward yourself with a short gaming session that is likely to give you much more pleasure than if you were gaming all day.
