Ego: Improving your ego using hypnosis

Do you also have to bend down every time you drive under a bridge because otherwise you'll bump your ego? Your ego is very important in your life, and if you can laugh about it this way, you'll be fine. On the contrary, do you feel that you don't have a big ego at all, or do you even think it's weird to pursue a big ego? Then this is a blog for you. After all, improving your ego is incredibly important for living your own life.

What is ego?

According to Freud, ego is the part of yourself that has to deal with the world and what has to find a balance between internal conflicts and pressures you may experience from outside. For example, when people want you to participate in something, but you don't really want to. Your ego then determines whether or not you participate.

Ego is therefore linked to degree of self-control and willpower.

Your ego matters for making choices based on will rather than feeling. Your ego matters for processing information; instead of finding what everyone else thinks, you determine your own opinion. Your ego is important for making choices and starting behaviors and stopping impulsive reactions and making rational choices[1].

What good is a big ego?

A great ego is therefore incredibly important if you want to live your life your way. Your ego protects you from following along, adopting opinions that are not based on anything, and your ego ensures that you protect yourself when you instinctively want to do stupid things.

So your ego helps you live your life according to your own rules. This prevents you from waking up sometime in the future and not being happy with your life at all because you realize you have been lived instead of having lived yourself.

For your longevity of life, it is also important that you have ego integrity. This means that you accept that your life is going the way it has. That you can look at it and say, "It had to be this way." Then, if you have not been ego-integrated all your life, you may actually become despondent about the course of your life[2].

Here you can become neurotic and often conjure up bitter moments while ruminating or reflecting on your life.

On the contrary, being open to life and new experiences can actually cause you to see older experiences in a new light. This often creates more positive feelings and a larger ego.

Is ego the same as self-confidence?

No, ego is not the same as self-confidence, but it is closely related to it. Your self-confidence is the confidence you have in your own ability. Your ego is the confidence you have in the choices you make. To make good choices to ensure that you live an honest life and live your life your way requires good self-confidence.

You notice immediately when someone doesn't have a very good ego, because they often come across as fake.

You also notice when someone has too big an ego, as they often come across as narcissistic and can sometimes be just a little too selfish[3].

A good ego ensures that you live in accordance with your desired identity.

How do you build your ego?

So how do you make sure you are making your own choices and not doing what everyone else is doing for the sake of not being unique and especially not doing something that other people have an opinion about?

I will list some tips for you and how hypnosis can help you implement them.

Tip 1: Keep your back straight

Your attitude does an awful lot for your emotional state and making decisions that are right for you. When you adopt a confident posture where you push your chest forward this already does a lot.

Therefore, always stand tall and proud.

Hypnosis can help you with this by visualizing walking upright and staying upright during difficult moments in your life.

Tip 2: Dress well

Are you used to always going for cheap clothes because normal is good enough? Get yourself a few special garments that make you feel fabulous. You don't have to change your entire wardrobe right away. If you have a pair of shoes or a blouse or even jewelry that makes walking upright just a little easier, then you're worth it, right?

Do you find it hard to treat yourself to beautiful clothes from another store you don't normally walk into easily?

Hypnosis can help you improve your self-esteem and that you are worth wearing what you love. You can do this, for example, by repeating hypnotic suggestions such as:

"Fashion helps you feel good."

"Slightly more expensive clothing also tends to last a little longer, making you comparatively just as expensive."

"Clothes allow me to feel good."

These are just examples, depending on your preferences and beliefs, a hypnosis expert may give you other suggestions.

Tip 3: Step out of your comfort zone

Is there something you've always wanted to do, but is too far out of your comfort zone? Do it anyway. Build up the courage to do what you actually want to do. That way, you'll find out that it's not bad at all to follow your heart and live your own life.

If you find it exciting to do something outside your comfort zone, a hypnosis expert can help you with a guided visualization. In that visualization, you'll learn how to successfully do what you actually want to do and how to overcome mental blocks to keep the momentum of that moment so you keep going.

Tip 4: Develop yourself

So your ego helps you to make your decisions and to have a good balance between your internal motivation and external pressure. When you develop yourself, for example by reading informative books, you can make your decisions with a better foundation. Especially when this is against external pressure, you can more easily justify it to yourself, which is good for your ego.

Do you feel like you don't have time to develop yourself? Then a hypnosis expert can help you with your beliefs about time and what you can do to develop yourself.

Tip 5: Gather people around you who support you

Is what you do never right or it doesn't make sense? Very annoying when you have people like that around you. That external pressure can cause you to not do what you want to do for an extended period of time. By gathering people around you who support you with your goals and what you want to achieve, your internal motivation and external pressure become more aligned.

That way, your life is more harmonious and living your own life feels less like a struggle.

Tip #6: Accept who you are and own it

Self-love is incredibly important. When you accept yourself, you can be fully yourself without feeling guilty about it. You can be who you are. You are allowed to be short-tempered, impatient and messy. That's ok. You don't have to be perfect and you are also allowed to have big dreams.

A hypnosis expert can help you with self-love through a variety of visualizations. There are very good exercises for this to release your insecurities and to make you feel that you deserve to be yourself and to be proud of what you have achieved or what you want to achieve. This is an incredibly loving and liberating feeling that you don't need anyone else for, just yourself and that you participate in the exercise.

So your ego is that part in yourself that determines whether you choose to choose for yourself or external pressure. This depends on many factors, but for your sense of happiness it is important to have a strong ego that also chooses for you regularly.

Hypnosis can help you develop this ego, and taking practical steps such as walking upright also already helps a great deal.
