Do you get fat by skipping breakfast?

Losing weight. It's one of the biggest things people do. Obesity is also one of the biggest problems in the Western world. There are lots of tips and tricks you can find on the Internet that work well. Some of those tips are also scientifically proven. There are also tips that work for some people and not for others. These are more personally related tips than tips and advice that work well overall. For example..

Breakfast is that good for you now?

One of those pieces of advice that people say is better if you don't do it is breakfast. In the Netherlands it is normal and some swear that it is healthier when you eat breakfast in the morning. It gives more energy and it is the most important meal in the day. By the way, also when you want to start losing weight, it is good not to skip breakfast.

But is this really true? Research has shown at the University of Alabama that it is not entirely true. Whether breakfast actually helps lose weight remains to be seen. Researchers often overestimate themselves and the studies. And thus pay too little attention to whether you can really lose weight by eating breakfast says researcher Andrew Brown.

Lose your weight by eating breakfast or not at all

Links have been found between people who are overweight and don't eat breakfast. But what exactly causes this they also do not know. Nor has it been proven that skipping breakfast causes obesity. There have been 92 studies conducted by a research team on the link between obesity and eating breakfast or not eating breakfast.

No studies showed really hard evidence that breakfast really does actually cause people to lose weight. Links have been found, but not necessary ones. They also don't know what will happen if people who eat breakfast stop doing so and those who don't eat breakfast do.

Whether the individuals in question will actually lose or gain weight is unclear. And that's not surprising, of course. Suppose you don't eat breakfast, but then you eat a lot, you will gain weight. Of course, it is not possible to pin it down to breakfast alone.

In addition, such a study is only half correct. They only study the eating pattern and not the "why do you eat" pattern. That is a difference. That pattern is essential if you want to put on weight. Of course good nutrition and more exercise are part of it, but if the unconscious automatic program is not addressed, it becomes very difficult.

That's why it's good to keep track of what you eat and what you think and feel in the process. That way you make conscious what is unconscious and then you can work with it by asking yourself questions such as:

  • Why am I thinking this?
  • Why do I feel this?

And so at some point you get to the root cause and can start addressing it. That's essential in the process of losing weight. Need more tips? Then enter your name and email below and you'll get free weight loss tips in your mailbox.
